Services Offered by the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area

Darke County

Welcome to Community Action Partnership serving Darke County. Our Agency offers low-income individuals and families programming and services that promote self-sufficiency. Below is a listing of the services and programs we offer. *Click here for a printable version of our brochure.

Clothing Bank
Eligible persons may receive free vouchers on a quarterly basis for clothing from the Darke County Clothing Bank. The Clothing Bank, located at 1469 Sweitzer Street in Greenville, is open to the general public on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Donations of clothing, appliances and household items in good condition are accepted and offered for resale.

Congregate Meals Program
The Nutrition Program offers a well-balanced mid-day meal to seniors 60 and older, five day per week. The meals are prepared and served at the central kitchen located at the Darke County office in Greenville. Congregate meals are served in the central kitchen facility, the New Madison Community Center, and the Fluer de Lis apartment complex in Versailles. Reservations must be made by 1:00 p.m. one day in advance.

Emergency Food and Shelter
Individuals in need of food, clothing and housing may receive assistance by contacting our office. Funds are typically available March through June.

Emergency Homeless Shelter
The Homeless Shelter provides shelter for persons without homes due to fire, eviction or other circumstances. The maximum stay for individuals is fourteen days; families may stay up to thirty days. Customers must pass a criminal background check. Contact the Greenville Police Department and the Darke County Sheriff’s Office for more information.

Food Bank
The Food Bank is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Income-eligible customers may receive an emergency food box containing a five-day food supply. Non-perishable items are collected locally. To donate, please contact the Darke County CAP office.

Greenville Transit System
Greenville Transit is municipally owned and operated by CAP Darke County. Limited, handicap accessible transportation is available for Darke County residents for a nominal charge. Transportation within the City of Greeneville is available on demand Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Trips to Dayton and Troy are also available on weekdays by appointment. General Transportation
The Senior Assistance Project offers transportation to congregate meal sites and other essential trips for persons 60 and older. Eligible customers must have no other means of transportation. Service must be scheduled 24 hours in advance by contacting the Senior Lifeline at 937-548-2727.

Home Delivered Meals
Home delivered meals are prepared at the central kitchen facility and delivered to homebound older adults throughout Darke County. Potential customers must be 60 or older, homebound and without assistance from family and friends. An assessment must be made in the home prior to initiating the service.

Home Weatherization Assistance Program
Low-income homeowners and renters may be eligible to receive: free attic and sidewall insulation, weather stripping, safety inspections, of furnaces and water heaters, furnace repairs, and consumer education to reduce the cost of their energy bills. Click here for a printable brochure.

Homemaker Services
Homemaker services are provided to persons aged 60 and over who have been assessed and determined eligible. Homemakers conduct general housecleaning, grocery shopping and laundry on a regular basis to ensure the customer can maintain independent living. Priority will be given to older individuals who are of advanced age, low income, and experiencing many difficulties performing activities of daily living.

Metropolitan Housing Authority
The Metropolitan Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher Program is a rental subsidy program for low-income families, elderly or disabled persons who meet certain eligibility requirements. For more information about this program, contact the Darke County Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP)
Households with an annual income at or below 150 percent of the poverty level may be placed on a payment plan with their regulated utility company at the Community Action Partnership. This plan, known as PIPP, allows income eligible households to pay a small percentage of their monthly income to maintain service. To schedule an appointment, please call 937-376-7747.

Salvation Army
Limited assistance is available to transient and local persons in need. Funds are used to provide gas to travelers, unexpected expenses for families and other self-sufficiency based situations. Darke County CAP does not service Salvation Army stores, therefore the agency does not have a pick-up service for clothes or other items.

Senior Assistance Program
Through a partnership with CAP and Community Senior Citizens Center, seniors 55 and older may participate in free weekly recreational activities including bingo, ceramics and card playing. Call the Senior Lifeline for additional information concerning these activities.

Senior Medical Transportation
Senior Medical Transportation is provided on an on-call basis for Darke County residents over age 60. Eligible customers must not be able to receive transportation through another community organization. Twenty-four hour notice is preferred. Donations are accepted and reservations may be made through Senior Lifeline by calling 937-548-2727.

Summer/Winter Crisis Program
The Summer Crisis Program assists with electric bills only under limited situations and may enable an individual with respiratory problems to receive an air conditioner. The Winter Crisis Program operates from November through March each year, and can pay up to $175.00 to maintain, restore or initiate utility service. Assistance with bulk fuel may also be provided.
