In this county, there is specific programming and services that have been developed and implemented to meet local needs. Montgomery County has a local facility, served by a County Director and staff, with input from a local Advisory Board. The Benefit Bank helps to connect low and moderate-income individuals and families with potential public benefits they may be entitled to in an effort to remove barriers that prevent self-sufficiency. The Benefit Bank is a free web-based computer software program that makes applying for many state and federal benefits easier. Individuals who want to learn or enhance their computer skills may do so through our Free Computer Literacy Program. Sessions are offered throughout the year and are generally three weeks in length. Individuals and families may qualify to receive emergency services as funding is available. WorkPays provides employment preparation and support assistance to eligible participants through free job search skills and job readiness training, interviewing techniques and resume building/writing. In addition, we are an approved provider for Ticket to Work services for disabled persons. Individual Development Account (IDA) Program Through the Homeownership Individual Development Account (IDA) Program, participants benefit from a 2:1 matched savings account. Individuals enrolled in the program are provided with a $2,000 match for their savings of $1,000 for use towards a down payment or the closing costs for their newly purchased home. For more than nine years, the Micro-Enterprise Business Development and Training Program has assisted individuals interested in starting and maintaining a home-based or second income business. Through the program, participants learn valuable tips from experienced accountants, bankers and other professionals. Ohio V.E.T.S. (Vocation, Education, Training and Services) will assist veterans in obtaining education, training and meaningful employment while providing them and their families with other supportive services to help them attain self-sufficiency. Ohio V.E.T.S. will provide assistance and coordinate services to address emergency needs, housing, health, personal finance, education/training and employment. Community Action Partnership will gladly enroll eligible households into the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) Plus to help them manage their utility bills and maintain services. HEAP provides once per season assistance to low-income families who are having difficulty paying heat and fuel bills. Weatherization is a residential energy efficiency program, that reduces energy use by reducing air infiltration and heat loss in homes. Homeowners and renters may be eligible to receive free services on their home to make it more safe, comfortable and energy efficient. Puzzled by the tax law or which credits and deductions to take? Need assistance with your tax return? Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is here to help. Eligible customers may receive FREE filing assistance of your state and federal taxes. The Youth Empowerment Center serves as home base for Community Action Partnership of Montgomery County's youth programming. The center targets Montgomery County youth, ages seven to 17 from low-to-moderate income areas.
