Fundraiser for youth programs
Community Action Partnership hosts Blue Moon Affair Friday, May 15
April 22, 2009 - The Second Annual Blue Moon Affair, hosted by the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area, will be an evening of inspiration, entertainment, friendship and fundraising for the agency’s Montgomery County youth programs. The “blue tie” affair is Friday, May 15, at 7 p.m. at the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center.
The Blue Moon Affair will celebrate Community Action Partnership’s efforts while raising funds to sustain the agency’s youth programming. The special performer for the evening is Actor, Writer, Singer, Composer, Poet and Dayton native Daniel Beaty. He has performed on television, in theatrical productions and in concerts throughout the United States, Europe and Africa.
Beaty’s acclaimed solo play “Emergence-See” ran off-Broadway to a sold out, extended run at the Public Theater in 2006. For this production, he received the 2007 Obie Award for Excellence in Off-Broadway Theater for Writing and Performing and the 2007 AUDELCO Award for Solo Performance.
On television, Beaty was seen on NBC’s “Showtime at the Apollo,” HBO’s “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry” and BET’s “106 & Park.” He performed at the White House and in tribute to Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis at the Kennedy Center. For the Blue Moon Affair, he will perform “Pain to Power.”
“The Blue Moon Affair raises funds for our Youth Empowerment Center (YEC), which has helped many young people in our community get on and stay on the path to success,” said Tim Donnellan, President and CEO of the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area. “Through after-school programs, field trips, volunteer work, fund-raising activities and mentoring, the YEC
helps young people ages seven to 17 mature into responsible young adults who contribute their time and talents in the community.”
The evening also includes a cocktail hour, dinner, entertainment from Premium Blend Music and a presentation from the Youth Empowerment Center. As a “blue tie” event, guests are encouraged to wear a blue dress, suit, tie, and/or accessories.
Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio sponsors the Blue Moon Affair. Tickets are $50 per person. For more information and to purchase tickets, call (937) 341-5000 ext. 146.
