45: Still Changing Lives
Community Action Partnership to hold Annual Meeting and Luncheon Thursday, April 16
March 11, 2009 -The public is invited as the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area celebrates 45 years of helping people and changing during the Annual Meeting and Luncheon. The event, “45: Still Changing Lives” is Thursday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at the David H. Ponitz Center, Building 12, Sinclair Community College.
The theme “45: Still Changing Lives” represents the 45th anniversary of the Community Action movement that began in 1964. The Annual Meeting and Luncheon will highlight Community Action Partnership’s efforts to serve its communities under nine U.S. Presidents, from Lyndon Johnson to Barack Obama.
“We recognize the grave economic times we face and what that has done to the communities we serve,” said Tim Donnellan, President and CEO of the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area. “It would seem that these tough times have no end in sight. However, with the spirit of hope on the horizon, we are confident that a period of change and improvement is forthcoming. As we move into our 45th year of service, we are ready to provide the support our community needs as never before.”
Ohio State Senator Ray Miller is the special guest speaker for the event. He is the chief sponsor of some the most significant health care, human services and other legislation ever enacted in Ohio. Known as the “Father of Head Start Funding” in Ohio, Miller sponsored legislation establishing the nation’s first state-level funding for the Head Start Program. His legislation also includes the creation of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, the Community Mental Health Act of 1988, and the Ohio Commission on Minority Health.
At the national level, Miller served on the White House staff as Deputy Special Assistant to President Jimmy Carter. He also served as Assistant Director of Legislation for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and Vice President of Minority Affairs for Columbus State Community College. Miller is highly regarded as an expert in the development of public policy on health, education and human service issues and has more than 400 community, state and national awards.
